Immediate release morphine tablets now available in Nepal

Since 2009, National Healthcare Ltd., a pharmaceutical company in Nepal, has been producing morphine syrup for medical use in Nepal.  Last month (March 2011), National Healthcare added production of 10-mg immediate release morphine tablets.  This local production will ensure availability of these essential medications on a more continuous, uninterrupted basis for patients in Nepal than was possible in the past.  This progress followed several months of required stability testing, and was the result of ongoing collaboration between the International Pain Policy Fellow, the Ministry of Health Department of Drug Administration, National Healthcare Ltd, and suppliers of morphine sulphate in Switzerland and India.
